Age 22 and Under — OHIP Psychiatry
A referral is required from a family physician, pediatrician, or nurse practitioner.
Consultations are generally 1 to 1.5 hours. The psychiatrist reviews the history and current concerns, assesses diagnosis where appropriate, and makes treatment recommendations.
Who may provide the consultation: Dr. Garcia Thibodeau (online only), Dr. Nkungu (online only), Dr. Wiesenthal (online or in person at 1739 Bathurst Street, Toronto), or a combined Nurse Practitioner + Dr. Wiesenthal pathway when appropriate.
This is consultation-only care. A written report is sent to the family physician, pediatrician, or nurse practitioner who made the referral. That clinician continues prescriptions, medication changes, monitoring, and ongoing care. Routine psychiatric follow-up is not provided through this pathway. This allows our psychiatrists to provide specialist assessment and recommendations to more patients while the regular medical provider maintains continuity of care.
Patients under 18: both the patient and a parent/legal guardian must attend. The clinician may meet with them together and separately during the consultation.
