Richard received his Master of Social Work degree in 1989 from Wilfred Laurier University. Richard has extensive experience in the mental health field in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals and community mental health agencies. Since 2007, he has worked in the Mental Health Services at Michael Garron Hospital, with a primary focus as an out-patient therapist with children, adolescents and families, providing individual, couples and family therapy. Richard believes strongly in supporting parents and provides parent coaching on a regular basis in his work.
Richard incorporates a variety of treatment modalities in his work, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and incorporates a mindfulness-based approach in his professional and personal life. Richard’s calm, compassionate approach is well suited to assist persons coping with anxiety, depression or other life and relationship stressors. He has also worked in numerous section 23 day treatment/school programs throughout his career. Richard is equipped to assist families to navigate through the education system to advocate for the resources they need.
Richard is a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and is also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers. In 2016 Richard completed a certificate training program in DBT provided at Broadview psychology.
