I hold a Masters of Social Work from the University of Toronto and am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers. I have twelve years of experience in the field with particular concentrations in clinical, research, and policy work. Since 2016, I have provided psychotherapy through my individual private practice (Anna Ekins Counselling). Prior to that, I worked as a clinician at the Child Development Institute focusing on children displaying aggression and their families. I have worked with children, adults, couples, and families with a variety of concerns such as anxiety, trauma, attachment concerns, parental mental health concerns, pre and post partum support, grief and loss, and family dynamics.
I have additional training and experience working with various therapeutic modalities including: Stop Now and Plan (SNAP), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), trauma-focused therapy, attachment-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy.
I have experience, and am committed to working with, a diverse clientele. I welcome individuals and families from all walks of life and am committed to incorporating an understanding and appreciation of clients’ realities (including race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion) into treatment. I have experience working with adoptive and foster families. I am also a registered clinician through the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Mental Health Counselling Services and the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program (IRS RHSP) through Health Canada.
